Mission Statement

Welcome to the Neighborhood Schools Program at the University of Chicago.

An outreach project of the University's Office of Community Affairs, the NSP employs University undergraduate and graduate students to work in the classrooms of elementary and high schools in communities near the University of Chicago, as well as a few non-school sites including local government offices, after school centers, and a women's shelter.  A small corps of NSP participants work as technology support staff in local schools.

A guiding principle of NSP is to support the work of local schools in advancing their school children to the highest possible level.  NSPers provide individualized attention to students who attend these schools and assist their teachers.  NSPers also strengthen the nearby communities by providing staff support to community centers and local governmental offices.
